Founder Catherine Thompson has always been interested in non-traditional wellness practices and has spent much time researching and practicing such forms of self-care. As a young child she was introduced to this world by her Step-father, who went to meditation Ashrams and eventually became a teacher in transcendental meditation. Non-western healing practices were a constant topic of discussion at the family dinner table. As a young adult, Catherine’s interests in these topics lead her to read voraciously.
However, in 2014, Catherine was diagnosed with chronic pain, months before her wedding. The struggle to combat this frustrating injury resulted in her going back to the therapies she had learned of as a young person. Where allopathic doctors wanted to prescribe heavy opioids, she wove together a wellness protocol that included meditation, acupuncture, massage, and Ayurveda. She still touches on these therapies to ground her understanding of health.
Through this challenge came a renewed focus on wellness, and a drive highlight healing therapies to Torontonians. Thus, we bring you the Moksha Centre.
